William B. Ogden papers, 1829-1881.

Correspondence, letterbooks (vol. 1, June 7, 1836-1839; vol. 2; March 14, 1839-Nov. 16, 1840; vol. 3, Nov. 16, 1840-Dec. 14, 1850), financial records, and other papers of William B. Ogden, Chicago's first mayor. Materials relate to real estate investments, chiefly in Chicago and other parts of Illinois, and include several maps drawn by Ogden of the Clybourn Farm and the Pearson property. The correspondence and documents are mainly regarding A. Bronson investments (1838-1859). Also included is a typescript of a letter by Ogden to Charles Benter (11 Oct. 1871; 4 p.) concerning the Great Chicago Fire.
